Training

Mike is a personal trainer who is attending First Baptist. He has worked me out the past two days and turned by body to jello. I go to the gym regularly, but this is an entirely different experience--expertise, challenge, and accountability. I get way more out of my time at the gym with Mike. It also hurts a lot more. I can't help but think of the spiritual application here. How many of us go through the motions of our spirituality like I go through the motions at the gym? How many of us would benefit from a personal spiritual trainer who would bring expertise, challenge, and accountability? What would this practically look like?

  1. Someone that would be constantly challenging me and holding me accountable to - finish well. It is true "no pain - no gain". I should be gaining lots and not weight. Good for you. Nice you have a personal trainer to "spur you on to good works" and that he goes to your church. Can't wait to see you at Thanksgiving. What about Christy - trainer?

  2. Kristine and I talk every day and so we know when to push and when to allow healing. We've learned to do accountability with one another in a real, deep way. What I've learned is that you CANNOT do accountability with someone who doesn't know you and know you WELL. The Holy Spirit has to lead the accountability. What I've found is that sometimes when I think Kristine needs to change something and I could easily say something the HS holds me back because he's still preparing her heart for it. She has also said this about me. Just like your trainer shouldn't be pushing you to the point of tearing your muscles, a spiritual accountability partner should not be 'tearing down' the person. They need to really know what they're doing, be sensitive to the Spirit and have the attitude of LOVE above all things. I could go on and on about this because I think Kristine and I have learned TONS about this over the past 6 years but I will digress....LOL
